Synapse Training has grown and recently welcomed on board their new Training Coordinator John Fletcher to the team. The team is now half way through the state-wide ‘Changing Behaviour for the Better’ seminar series, have a number of strategic partnerships in the pipeline and continue to receive positive feedback.

In Synapse travels across regional parts of Queensland they are finding that the challenges that arose with recent floods have not dampened the spirits of those working in the human services sector.
Training Manager Grant Blest and the team’s new Training Coordinator John Fletcher are busy working in tandem delivering training from their full range of courses across Queensland.
John has just returned from delivering training in Mackay and is assisting as co-facilitator for their ‘Changing Behavior for the Better’ program as well as building partnerships with key stakeholders.
John has worked in the Community Services sector for almost 30 years. In that time he has worked for a number of organizations including The Salvation Army, Mission Australia (Formerly Brisbane City Mission), Uniting Care, The Smith Family, Australian Institute of Community Services and more recently the House With No Steps. He has also worked for the Federal Government as a Personal Advisor with Centrelink.
“
I have also worked in the disability field as a support worker, a job that has brought me great rewards and many challenges," said John.
“
One of the greatest rewards of training over the past 18 months has been to see long term unemployed people gain skills to re-enter the workforce and, as an end result of training, see them gain (in the main) full time employment – many of them in the HACC and Disability areas.”
So far the Synapse Training team has been growing from strength to strength says Grant.
“
We have had a good response to the training program so far. The people who have attended the training are doing some of the toughest jobs in the state.”
Synapse Training targets carers, frontline support staff, coordinators and managers working within the Disability, Aged, Health, and Child Safety area’s focuses on understanding the reason why behaviour occurs. They then put proactive plans in place to assist an individual to modify their own behaviour.
“
Every behaviour serves a purpose and therefore communicates a message, so understanding the reason behind the behaviour is key in eliminating the behaviour,” said Grant.
